Jonny Moore

Welcome to jonnymooresailing.co.uk

Firstly, a huge apology; to all those who were behind me and wanted me to succeed. Unfortunately, I have had to call off the attempt, as I have decided that single handed sailing in a 21" yacht is not for me, and even with a crew, not fun for more than a short day sail. I can appreciate the frustration that some of you may be feeling, to have got so far and "given up", however, I do not feel like I have given up, I have learnt so much about myself and about what I do and do not enjoy, and the amount of sailing experience I gained would otherwise have taken years to gain.

thankyou once again to all of those who helped and supported me.

Jonny.

Raising funds for Kendal Sea Cadets

In the summer of 2008, I will be 16, and I intend to set off on a trip that will take me around the coast of Great Britain. This trip will be completed single-handed, under sail in Casulen II, my Corribee Mk II, and will take approximately 75-95 days, with a distance of around 2000 nautical miles. To the best of my knowledge, I will be the youngest person ever to attempt this trip.

I will be travelling in a clockwise direction, and will be setting out from Holyhead in North Wales. I intend to go around the whole of mainland Britain, including going around Cape Wrath and through the Pentland Firth. At my age, I see sailing around Britain as something I can personally achieve at this stage, and also being a stepping off point for more shorthanded offshore sailing, as it is here that I see my future. I also intend to put my trip to good use by using it to raise funds for Kendal Sea Cadets (as this is where I was first properly introduced to sailing) in order that they can continue to introduce more young people into the sport of sailing.

My decision to sail in a clockwise direction is based on the fact that is much easier to work through the Pentland Firth in a clockwise direction (West to East), and, whilst sailing through the Irish Sea and up the West coast, I would be running with the prevailing South Westerlies, (but we are bound to have North Easterlies for the duration of Summer 2008!)
